#5 - Strategy is the art of the possible Ship the Diff https://shipthediff.com/episodes/005-the-art-of-the-possible/ Building a company means keeping a direction while responding to opportunities that never arrive exactly as planned. In this short Friday-night update, Kasper explains why computerlove.tech will miss an internal product deadline—and why that does not mean the company has stopped moving forward. 01:17 We're not going to hit that one. 01:23 We need to postpone it. 01:27 But also, you know, in many ways I've learned that all this business stuff is actually, you know, it's... 01:37 I really like this term, an art of the possible, right? 01:43 Det muliges kunst. 01:44 It's called in Danish. 01:47 And it's really, that is really true, you know, because, you know, there is your vision, your strategy, everything you imagine that you're going to do and your plan. 02:00 And then there's reality, right? 02:04 And opportunities, they just emerge, right? 02:10 And sometimes you have a plan to do something, but opportunities emerge. 02:18 And it's sort of like on strategy, but not entirely how you imagined it. 02:26 But you have a good feeling that it will move you forward, right? 02:31 Towards something, some direction, right? 02:39 And that is kind of like happening right now. 02:41 We're still really, really strong releasing this product and everything, but, and also doing it. 02:46 But it's really dark here, I hope you can, like, hear me at least. 02:53 So, yeah. 02:55 The important thing, I guess, is that you're not just doing random stuff, right? 03:00 Just saying yes to random gigs, random customers, wanting to do all sorts of stuff. 03:06 But you're saying yes to the right things. 03:08 That is kind of like getting you in the right direction. 03:13 Even though it was kind of like not what you expected, but you still have a good feeling about it. 03:21 And feel like that it will maybe open up doors for future opportunities. 03:29 Or at least, you know, just be able to position you more favorably than just doing random stuff, right? 03:40 And we're kind of like there right now, I feel. 03:43 And I think my dear co-founders would agree. 03:48 I need to make a video with Christian, introduce you to him soon, actually. 03:52 He's a great guy. 03:54 Look forward to, you should look forward to meeting him. 03:58 Yeah. 04:00 And then this week has also been about, you know, because Christian is, he has, he's a co-founder 04:07 in this company and another company called North5. 04:10 And we are, yeah, we are, you know, collaborating and, yeah, having also plans on collaborating more 04:19 in the future. 04:20 A lot of, there's been a lot of, you know, it takes work, you know, to figure out how to 04:26 collaborate. 04:27 And there's been a lot, there's been a big topic for this week. 04:30 And also, we have actually been out in Danish city or I don't know what you call it, but 04:39 yeah, a city called Herlev. 04:42 It's pretty close to Copenhagen. 04:44 And looked at an office, you know, actually at an office building where we have, 04:49 it's basically an office with a, two rooms and a small kitchen. 04:57 That's an entire floor, right? 04:59 And we were out looking at that company with North5, the other company that Christian is 05:08 a part of. 05:10 And I've basically decided to say yes to actually renting that space, right? 05:16 So we're actually going to have a space right now, right? 05:18 And the only thing that maybe worries us the most is that if we're going to use it or like 05:27 if we're on the road so much that we're actually not going to hang out there. 05:32 But yeah, let's see how it goes, right? 05:35 So, but we're pretty exciting to, that we have actually just today said finally yes to our office space. 05:45 That's pretty cool. 05:48 And it's actually a really cool place. 05:50 The top of the building, an older building actually. 05:55 An entire, you know, floor. 05:56 I guess I'm going to give you a tour when we kind of like get it up and running. 06:03 So, yeah. 06:05 And also, yeah, just been busy doing stuff. 06:13 I have a little bit forgot to record Ship the Diff until now on my way home late in the evening. 06:21 And I'm alone with the kids all weekend because my wife is going to work. 06:27 So I won't be having time to record there. 06:30 So, yeah, just did it right here. 06:35 Great. 06:36 But I think that was the update for this week. 06:39 I hope you have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you next time. 06:45 Bye.
